Former Madison grappler Matthew Goldberg Earns a Ph.D. in Psychology from the CUNY Basic and Applied Social Psychology program.
Former Madison standout wrestler Matthew Goldberg has gone from being brolic on the mats to being brolic in the classroom! A member of the Madison Golden Knights wrestling team (2007-2009) Matthew was an “All-City” wrestler and a big part of the team’s successful 3rd place finish at the NYC Mayors Cup and a trip to the PSAL Team Championships.
A member of the James Madison much esteemed Law House, Matthew was an exemplary student who was determined before the end of his junior year he was going to be a Ph.D. someday. He was true to his word.
Matthew earned his Ph.D. in Psychology and successfully defended his thesis this past spring. His work, entitled An Informational Influence Perspective on (Non) conformity: Perceived Knowledgeability Increases Expression of Minority Opinions is available on line at the following link:

Since donning his doctoral robe Matthew has accepted a position as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale University where he will conduct research at Yale’s Program on Climate Change Communication.
Matthew’s athletic pursuits were not ignored during this academic pursuit. Recently Matthew completed the New Jersey Spartan Ultra. A 31-mile course with 65 obstacles and close to 10K ft. of elevation gain over punishing terrain.
Congratulations Matthew Goldberg. The entire Madison community is very proud.
