Recently, seven Madison wrestlers travelled to Herricks High School on Long Island to participate in a round robin tournament. In 30 matches wrestled, Madison came out on top 24 times. An impressive showing in a tournament full of quality Section VIII and Section XI wrestlers.

On December 29th, Madison is proud to host the 7th Annual Paul Goddard Tournament. This is a round robin format, and 17 Madison wrestlers will be competing, along with 14 other PSAL teams.

The New Year will start off with a bang, as Madison will travel to Monsignor Farrell for the always tough Dave Ironman tournament on January 4th. Konstantin Parfiryev will be looking to repeat as an individual champion, and hoping to join him on the podium this year will be Marc D’Chiutiis, who is closing in on his 20th win this season.

Madison Places 7th in the 16 Team PSAL Holiday Duals Tournament

Sunday morning, Madison wrestlers travelled to the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, to take on Horace Mann in the final round of this year’s PSAL Holiday Tournament. The match was scheduled to take place at 8 AM, as part of the day long festival of wrestling, Grapple in the Garden.

Arriving at 6:45 AM, the wrestlers made their way to the scales, and then prepared themselves in the tunnel. Coming off of three losses the day before against Brooklyn Tech (2nd place), Fordham Prep (3rd place), and Poly Prep, the Madison wrestlers girded themselves to take to the mats, bounce back, and finish the tournament with a victory.

With impressive wins by Mansur Bulatov at 132 pounds, Mirlan Jumabaev at 152 pounds, and Brandon Costantino at 106 pounds, Madison bested Horace Mann by a score of 45 – 35. The two teams will face each other again on Friday, December 13th, at the Horace Mann Duals.

Madison Wrestling will begin their PSAL schedule this week with matches against Wingate, and Stuyvesant, before travelling to Petrides for the Staten Island Dual Meet Tournament on December 6th and 7th.
