Wrestling season set to begin November 1st.

The PSAL wrestling season officially begins on Tuesday, November 1st, and the Madison Golden Knights of the Mat are ready to get back to work full time.

The team will start its full time practice schedule November 1st in preparation for the 2011-2012 season’s first event: a tri meet against Sheepshead Bay and Grady high schools on Wednesday, November 30th.

The team looks strong, with many wrestlers returning from a summer spent attending wrestling camps and active participation in the fall pre-season club wrestling season.

The fall club season culminated last weekend with the NYC Club Dual Championships at Wingate high school in Brooklyn.  The Golden Knights team with wrestlers from Madison high school and Brooklyn Wrestling Club went 2 and 1 in their pool of teams, losing to the Lions Wrestling Club (Monsignor Farrell high school) by a score of 40-31.

The Golden Knights then earned a 3rd place finish with a hard fought victory over the Generals Wrestling Club (Wingate high school) by a score of 35-30.

The Lions Wrestling Club took first place overall with a win over the Wolves Wrestling from Grand Street campus high school.

All club teams were comprised of wrestlers from at least three different high schools
and are USA Wrestling chartered clubs.  The NYC Club Dual Championships were sponsored by Beat the Streets NYC.
